Angela Russolillo

Program Head – Psychiatry, PHD, MSC, RPN

Dr. Russolillo brings extensive clinical expertise from acute and community mental health and substance use settings serving in nursing leadership and frontline clinical roles for nearly 15 years.

Her academic training has included a research-based MSc in Health Sciences and a PhD in Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. She is a recipient of a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Banting Doctoral Award and most recently the Health Professional Investigator Award from Michael Smith Health Research.

A substantial portion of her research has focused on examining health services and interventions among people who are substance dependent, mentally ill and who experience additional sources of hardship such as involvement with the criminal justice system or homelessness.

Dr. Russolillo’s clinical training and experience inform her program of research, which aims to reduce disparities in mental health, substance use and treatment through health services reform, advocacy, and integration of evidence-based practices. Her research is characterized by a systems-level focus and includes use of population level administrative databases and collaborating across various levels of health care. Dr. Russolillo has worked alongside multidisciplinary teams to evaluate supported housing models, examine cross-government data and develop standards of care for specialized mental health services. Her research program supports several national and international agendas focused on improving health care policy and practice for individuals with complex health and social challenges.
