Andy is an emergency physician at St. Paul’s, Vancouver General, and BC Children’s Hospitals in Vancouver, and a Clinical Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine.

He has additional training in health care administration, public health, and tropical medicine.
He has also lived and worked in Botswana, where he oversaw the launch of a new emergency medicine department and residency program. His current research and public health efforts focus on emergency department interventions for patients with opioid addiction. Completed projects include an evaluation of a novel emergency department take-home naloxone kit distribution program and the development of a take-home naloxone teaching app. His current focus includes implementing opioid agonist therapy (i.e., Suboxone) in emergency departments. Through his affiliation with the CIHR-funded Canadian Initiative on Substance Misuse (CRISM), he is conducting a national survey of emergency physicians on attitudes concerning harm reduction interventions in emergency departments.
