Quality matters when it comes to teens’ sleep


Dr. Annalijn Conklin was appeared in a number of media stories about her recent publication, co-authored by Dr. Chris Richardson, which showed that impaired sleep quality can negatively affect self-reported health in teenagers. Dr. Conklin was interviewed on Global News and was quoted in coverage in CTV News, Psychcentral, and Thrive Global, among others.

Obstructive sleep apnea can have devastating consequences


Dr. Najib Ayas was featured in a story appearing in The Daily Scan. The story discussed the potentially serious health implications of sleep apnea — left untreated, the risk of developing cardiovascular disease is three times higher than for people without the disorder.

 

Pregnant women should be tested for hepatitis C


Dr. Naveed Janjua was quoted in a Vancouver Sun story about the potential for hepatitis C virus screening in pregnant women to prevent the transmission of the virus from mother to baby. Dr. Janjua discussed the epidemiology of hepatitis C in B.C. and the available treatment options.

 

New St. Paul’s to get hear loss treatment centre


Dr. Brian Westerberg was quoted in several stories covering the announcement from the St. Paul’s Foundation about a research and treatment centre for people with hearing loss and balance disorders. Stories appeared in The Vancouver Sun and Vancouver Courier, among other. Dr. Westerberg is the Head of the Division of Otolaryngology at St. Paul’s Hospital.

 

Lack of family doctors in B.C.


Dr. Rita McCracken was asked about the current issues some British Columbians are facing when trying to access a family doctor. Two stories separate stories covered this issue, with one discussing the access issues (The Times Colonist, Kamloops Matters) and one discussing the provincial governments response to address the problem (The Times Colonist, Prince George Matters).
