Work in Progress Seminar: Dr. John Staples

May 23, 2018 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Hurlburt Auditorium, St. Paul's Hospital
1081 Burrard Street

John Staples, MD, FRCPC, MPH

Scientist, CHÉOS
Clinical Assistant Professor, University of British Columbia
Academic General Internist, St. Paul’s Hospital

Abstract: Public events can be used as natural experiments that examine the effect of exposures that are impractical or unethical to study using prospective randomized trials. This approach may identify opportunities to improve population health. In this presentation, Dr. Staples will discuss recent and ongoing work that uses observational data to examine risk factors for injury. The talk will highlight a recent project examining traffic fatalities on the annual 4/20 cannabis celebration.

Work in Progress (WiP) presentations take place at St. Paul’s Hospital in the Hurlburt Auditorium on alternating Wednesdays from 12:00–1:00 PM. These seminars provide investigators with an opportunity to present ongoing research, obtain feedback from colleagues and peers, and make new connections for their projects. Talks are open, and a light lunch is served.
