Work in Progress Seminar: The Future Starts Now—Social Media and e-Mental Health as a Framework for the Psychiatry of Tomorrow

March 1, 2017 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Hurlburt Auditorium, St. Paul's Hospital
1081 Burrard Street

Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, UBC (with a cross-appointment to the School of Population and Public Health)

Abstract: Mental health care is one of the most underfunded areas in medicine, with a small number of experts, long wait times, and small capacities. Yet, it is an area with a high burden of disease. A paradigm shift in communication and new web-based tools may be needed to address these gaps in care, build capacity, and change our approach to how we organize the health care system. Ideas for this paradigm shift will be presented, based on recent developments in the e-mental health field.

Work in Progress (WiP) presentations take place at St. Paul’s Hospital in the Hurlburt Auditorium on alternating Wednesdays from 12:00–1:00 PM. These seminars provide investigators with an opportunity to present ongoing research, obtain feedback from colleagues and peers, and make new connections for their projects. Talks are open, and a light lunch is served.
